The Ciena B-720-1087-301 (model F10E-A90-TN; HECI/CLEI: WMOTBYHFAA for ISS 1, WMOTCHBFAA for ISS 2) is an unprotected aggregation module for the Ciena CN 4200 FlexSelect Advanced Services Platform. Specifically, it works as a 10G muxponder, combining multiple lower-rate client services onto a single DWDM wavelength. As a result, operators carry more services over each fiber.
In addition, the network side uses OTU2 framing with enhanced forward error correction (EFEC), which extends optical reach and improves signal integrity. Consequently, operators can run longer spans with fewer regenerators. Moreover, the ITU 50 GHz tunable laser lets operators place the wavelength anywhere on the DWDM grid, so one spare covers many channels.
Furthermore, IBM qualified this module on the CN 4200 for GDPS and Server Time Protocol applications, carrying ESCON, 1G and 2G FICON, Fibre Channel, and ISL traffic. Therefore, it suits mainframe, storage replication, and data center interconnect networks. For details, see IBM’s CN 4200 qualification letter.
For these reasons, the module suits enterprise DWDM networks, storage extension, and spares for deployed CN 4200 systems. Since the CN 4200 is a legacy platform, the secondary market is now the main source for these cards. Likewise, it pairs with other CN 4200 modules such as the Ciena B-966-0013-001 CN-M6-FLEX-F multiservice module.
Best of all, Telecom Leasing offers the B-720-1087-301 for lease or purchase, so you can source legacy CN 4200 hardware with confidence.
In short, it’s the F10E-A90-TN, a CN 4200 unprotected aggregation module with an OTU2 enhanced-FEC network side and 50 GHz tunable DWDM optics.
