The Ciena NTK553LA (HECI/CLEI: WOWUA7BEAB) is a Wavelength Selective Switch (WSS) Flex C-Band with OPM, 9×1, for the Ciena 6500 Packet-Optical Platform. Specifically, it gives operators per-wavelength control over which DWDM channels they add, drop, pass through, or switch at a node. As a result, it forms the core of a flexible, multi-degree 6500 ROADM.
In addition, the card’s nine input ports support multi-degree configurations for ring and mesh networks. Consequently, carriers can route wavelengths remotely, without truck rolls or manual fiber changes. Moreover, the same card serves both terminal and through nodes.
Furthermore, the switch handles both fixed-grid and flexible-grid channel plans, with granularity from 100 GHz down to 12.5 GHz. Therefore, operators can mix today’s 50 GHz and 100 GHz wavelengths with newer, wider coherent channels on the same fiber.
The integrated OPM measures the power of each wavelength passing through the switch. For this reason, operators can balance channel power and spot problems without separate test equipment. Likewise, the 6500 uses this data to automate power control across the line.
Both are 9×1 Flex C-Band WSS modules with OPM. However, the Ciena NTK553LB also supports flexible grid channels wider than 500 GHz, so it suits networks planning for future super-channels. For more on the platform, see Ciena’s 6500 Packet-Optical Platform overview.
Best of all, Telecom Leasing offers the NTK553LA for lease or purchase, so you can build flexible ROADM nodes at a fraction of new cost.
In short, it’s a 9×1 Wavelength Selective Switch Flex C-Band with optical power monitoring for the Ciena 6500.
The NTK553LA uses HECI/CLEI code WOWUA7BEAB.
